Why I Dropped Naruto (Shippuden)

When it comes to why I dropped Fairy Tail, I lost interest a bit before the show seemingly changed. I fell out of the series when things were still somewhat “good”, but looking at where the anime is now, I find myself not even a little bit curious as to how it got to such a pathetically mediocre position. The difference between Fairy Tail and Naruto, to me, are simple: I loved Naruto, whereas I only kinda liked Fariy Tail. More importantly, I dropped Fairy Tail before I could see it fall apart, whereas with Naruto…well, I watched that ship sink as I was still jumping off it, then continued to view it become submerged from a seat on the shore and only got up to leave after a far longer time than needed to be sure there was no coming back. Why I Dropped Fairy Tail

Yup, I’m dropping like it’s…a lot this week and to be honest, I’ve been meaning to do this for a long time now. These two anime are, in my humble opinion, no longer worth watching. Thing is, I’ve had them on hold for quite some time now. Since I sort of “specialize” in romance comedies and nearly never mention anything about heated, action, “power-of-will” shounen series, I could see how this might come as a bit of a shocked that I used to watch Fairy Tail and Naruto. Hell, I used to LOVE Naruto, and that’s probably why I’ve been (on-)holding on to it for so long, instead of just plain dropping it. And so here, I’m going to tell you what finally pushed me over the edge. Continue reading

Why I Dropped Fuuka & Aquarion Evol

Fuuka

Episodes 5/12

If you read my last weekend feature about Fuuka and clichés, then you probably know why I’m dropping this show. That being said, I’m going to quickly run through everything wrong with this anime right now, because I feel it necessary to understand what I like and dislike, and it’s a good exercise to convey that to others. I could just drop shows I find myself not enjoying and move on with my life, but instead I try to think hard about what it is that makes me feel the way I do. By doing this, I take what would have otherwise been just a waste of time and turn it into a learning experience. Also, I’m just reluctant to drop anything. Continue reading

Why I Dropped Izetta: The Last Witch

7/12 episodes

What is this show supposed to be about? Is it about the horrors of war? Or is it about bringing war to an end through diplomacy? How about political espionage? Or maybe finding out the ramifications of combining fantasy with industrial warfare? And what about a lesbian relationship between a princes and a witch? Does this show touch upon any of these themes in a worthwhile way or manage to subvert them while still being meaningful and provocative? Continue reading

Why I Dropped Sweetness & Lightning AND Orange

Screenshot (767).png

If you’ve been reading my blog lately then this probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. I’m dropping Sweetness & Lightning and Orange. While they’re both shows I wouldn’t call outright terrible (actually, I’d probably classify Orange as terrible), they still managed to wear me down to the point where I just can’t be bothered anymore. It’s gotten to the point where I just stare at the new episode thumbnail for a moment, dread the idea of wasting the next 22-24 minutes of my life on it, and then click away to do something else. I’ve felt like it’s been a pain to watch these shows for quite a while, and so here we are. These are my reasons for dropping Sweetness & Lightning and Orange. Continue reading

NEW GAME!, Episode 2 | Why I Dropped NEW GAME!

Screenshot (606).png

Before I get into why this show is dumb (I don’t like it), I want to say that I’m going back on my decision to review this episodically. Instead, I think I’ll go for the much more appealing ReLIFE, of which I’m actually starting to really enjoy. It’s funny how the first episode of a show can tell you almost nothing, and how stupid it is to try and judge a show based on one episode. I of course already knew this (super pretentious), but I thought I’d make a game out of it and test my luck. That failed, as I picked what was in hindsight the obvious loser. So with that said, I’ll be reviewing ReLIFE week by week starting with a two episode review special to catch up. Should be a fun time, and my first episodic review of a rom-com series! It’s my absolute favorite genre, so you can expect my write-ups to be unapologetically biased. Continue reading
